14th ASA (Australian Society of Agronomy) Conference
Australian agronomists will address the big challenges facing agriculture - including climate change and variability, uncertainty over energy supplies and resource use efficiency, at their 14th conference in Adelaide in 2008.
IAIA (International Association for Impact Assessment) 28th Annual Meeting
The conference theme is: The Art and Science of Impact Assessment and the program aims to highlight how the various instruments of impact assessment can assist developers, industry, decision-makers, development cooperation providers, and the public to integrate environmental, social, and other concerns in the fields of: • Climate change • Energy issues • Water • Resource development • Tourism • Land use planning, transportation, landscape and aesthetics • Coastal zone planning and management • Development cooperation • Poverty reduction and the Millennium Development Goals • Environmental impact of trade agreements • Environmental practice in Australia and New Zealand.
Complex Systems Science Symposium
Patterns in our planet: defining new concepts for the application of multiscale non-equilibrium thermodynamics to earth system science. This conference will facilitate a concerted collaborative effort from the mathematical, mechanical, geoscience, atmospheric and marine modelling communities to overcome challenges and ensure a breakthrough in comprehensive earth system modelling.
10th International Congress of Ecology (INTECOL)
INTECOL's theme is: Ecology in a Changing Climate. Two Hemispheres - One Globe. The Congress will be hosted by the Ecological Society of Australia in partnership with the New Zealand Ecological Society. This is the first time that an International Congress of Ecology will have been held in the southern Hemisphere. Ecologists from around the world will explore how global climate change has impacted, and will further impact, ecosystems and their vital services to human communities. They will explore unique features of ecosystems in the southern and northern hemispheres but look for common elements in a search for solutions to this looming problem. Symposia will represent all scales of ecology from individual organisms to landscapes, and report on a diversity of ecosystems from marine to freshwater aquatic systems and terrestrial ecosystems from arid to rainforest and from polar to tropical. The meeting will bring expert ecological commentary on a range of vital processes including land and water use, sea level change, restoration of ecosystems, biotic invasions, changing water patterns, urban ecology and fire ecology. It will include discussions on long term monitoring of ecosystems, on incorporating ecological knowledge into policy, on integrating indigenous knowledge into conventional science, and on communicating ecological information to a broader community.
Enviro 08: Australasia's Environmental & Sustainability Conference & Exhibition
